I guess I hadn't given a whole lot of thought to a quarterstaff--I guess I was shying away from yellow damage. I also messed around with a white glaive a bit this weekend, and enjoyed it.
I should give some more thought to two-handed weapons. I know the glaive is out for a thief (minimum length is too long), but a spear would be another two-handed option. I'd just be trading two damage-dealing yellow ends for one red one.
Oh--here's a thought. Is a sweep (with a qstaff, not a leg) a legal tactic, or a no-no? Obviously it'd only be a light to one or both legs, but it'd be fun to whack 'em with a dagger while they're down...

yeah talon has a cool staff with a punch guard. he uses it pretty much as a shield, dunno if its much good for fighting tho

Quarterstaff is the most useless weapon in Darkon.
Everybody will tell you this.
Except me, usually, because I've actually used one to kill someone before. Boy were they shocked.
But it's still pretty useless.
Example: I've had one for over 2 years. I brought it to two events.

| no as i stated i prolly will not be at roundtree ass im not driveing that far to not be able to arch. but i have no problem with others useing it. it works well as a shield if u know what ur doing and u have to be kinda fast works real well if u put a buckler on ur left shoulder to complament it. than ur only worry is blask swords and stuff but even if ur useing a normal punch shield black swords can still hurt (i just wear a wrist brace for that problem) |

I remember what it looks like now, after Xot mentioned the punch guard. I'll give it a try sometime, although I'm more apt to use a spear if I go florentine.
I'd also like to give a two-handed quarterstaff a try someday with another class (2-handed and <4' won't mix well), even if Iltz says they suck ;)

we used to have a staff that was like 8 feet long, mebbe bigger. it wasn't that effective, but ergot and connar did scare the bejeezus outta some people charging across the field basball bat swinging it hahahahaha!!!

qstaff in off hand with a mage shield. "pointed" end facing down. as person approaches, I poke them in chest with the pointed end. they stare in shock. then fall over dead.
qstaff not useless at all to a mage. |
