During the last expedition, the Glorious Laconian Army was attacked by a pair of mighty Owlbears in the plains northeast of Mount Olympus (K21). After swiftly dispatching the beasts, I, King Xoticus and my son, Pathos took pity on the creatures. We decided to animate the corpses and lead them south to the forests near Bronze Guardia (H22), where they were promptly ressurected, after being placed in suitable enclosures, of course. They seem to be doing well and are quite happy living off of the local wildlife. I do not believe that such creatures are evil, and deserve better than to simply fall victim to our expansion. If any more such creatures are discovered, we will care for them as well. I would also ask that our allies in Empyrean follow the same or similar procedure when encountering any magical creatures. If they are released into my care, I will pay suitably for your trouble. I assure you that they will recieve only the best of care. In the meantime, all Laconians and allies are welcome to view the Owlbear exhibit. Admission is free, but donations are welcome, all proceeds going towards care of the animals. _________________ Xoticus Of Laconia

I regret to inform you that, unless you enjoy the capture and captivity of humans, The Empyrean cannot help you. My records indicate that we have yet to run into anything but humans during our expansion.
However, I am hearing rumors of barbarians. Are barbarians considered zoo-worthy? _________________ ~Iltztafein

I dont think any barbarians are able to be domesticated so I would say the answer to that question is no. As for this zoo I think it is a good idea since I know you and your son will care for the animals. I was kept in a zoo once and I didn't receive the care and attention that you will give these creatures so with that having been said I will give 5 gold towards the zoo effort with more to come later if necessary. Also, have you thought about names for them, like Munch-Munch for the male and Miss Hootey for the female. Just a thought. I will bring the money to you shortly. Until then, Hail King Xoticus and his son Pathos! _________________ "To know greatness one must first be humble"

If anybody understands the proper care of captive creatures, Pathos does. By the looks of it, Mordom fed him well on the reserve.
Though, that belly of his could just be genetics at work...
Anyway... Your advice is well-taken, Arelon. Thankfully, your great King Xoticus gave me a solution to my barbarian problem that will make both the barbarians and the women of my nation very happy.
Also, when is the public grand-opening of this zoo? I will contact Hans Strudel, the great baker of the north and have him cook some Couch Beast cookies for each patron of the zoo. Believe me... They are very delicious! _________________ ~Iltztafein

BTW, here is a picture you can use for advertising your zoo. It's very life-like!

Well there being only one exhibit thus far, I would hesitate to have a "Grand Opening" until there are at least three. Perhaps at the campout, you could keep an eye out for any magical creatures befitting of the zoo? I don't nessecarily need them alive, but at least keep them from decaying until they can be resurrected by our staff.
Also please remember that I once was a captive of the "Reserve" as well. This is not the same thing, as these creatures are neither going to be tortured nor used as food for orcs! I would ask you not to speak so casually about such things, as the horrors I witnessed there still haunt my dreams. I am glad that Pathos was too young to remember such things...
On a brighter note, however, that is a wonderful picture! I am assuming that it is a juvenile, as "Munch-Munch", the male is over 14 feet tall! I also thank Arelon for his generous contribution! _________________ Xoticus Of Laconia

Oh. I did not know that on the reserve you were treated so poorly. I've only ever met one elf that lived on the reserve formally (other than you and Pathos). And we know where that led... She had few complaints about life on the reserve, though.
As for the picture... Yes, I do believe it to be a magical illustration of a young owl bear. Perhaps your couple will mate in captivity and give you exactly that!
As for magical creatures, I will not be there, so I cannot catalogue any such instances. However, I will ask all other Brothers and numbers, including Ursus Polaris, to be on the lookout for such.
Hopefully Brother Occultus won't show up... Or the only thing you'll be getting is a pelt. _________________ ~Iltztafein

The scouting mission of G21 was a huge success! I hired Martin of Moot, a highly skilled Ranger, to scout the land for us, revealing the location of a nest of juvenile Blue Dragons! Apparently the mother was nowhere to be found, so we decided to investigate.
Martin led us to a spectacular waterfall spilling over over some rocky cliffs into a pristine pool of water, before rushing over the craggy rocks in the river towards the sea. He took us up a slope on one side of the pool, showing us the entrance to the cave behind the falls.
We entered quietly with the intent of observing the creatures, but they were ready for us. We followed a deep tunnel to a large cavern, where we were ambushed by two Dragons the size of horses. They spit lightning at us, sparking off of Pathos' Steelskin, and destroying my shield. As one of them swept down from it's perch towards me, I released the Nature Love spell from my Onyx. The creature hesitated for a moment, but then continued it's assault, forcing us to cut it down. The other was cut down with steel and spell in turn.
The slaying of the young creatues filled my heart with remorse. I never intended to harm the creatures but they were incredibly agitated for some reason. And the one that attacked me resisted my spell in a way I have never seen any creature do.
I had one of them Ressurected, with a Commune With Nature spell active. I told the Dragon That we did not wish to hurt them, that we were forced to defend ourselves. She responded to me, the magic allowing us to communicate freely, and told me that they were on guard since a recent attack. Apparently their lair had been assaulted by a group of Skaven, being led by a Trio of Dark Elves. Their mother and them had managed kill most of the Rats, but the Elves escaped. Their mother had been injured in the battle, but went after the survivors anyway. That was 3 days before, and the juveniles hadn't seen her since.
The other Dragon was raised and the female introduced herself as Tanis, and her brother as Apophis. They told me that they were worried about their mother, and had been surving on the corpses of the Rat-Men they had slain.
If Nasad had found a way here, then another assault on Bronze Guardia could not be far off, but there would be no time to warn them, it being two hexes away.
I told the Dragons that their mother was probably headed there, but would meet a vast army of Rats, Drow, and even Daemons. They insisted on going there immediately, offering to allow me to ride Apophis if I would show them the way. I had the rest of the Hoplites escort Martin back to the DMZ, and mounted Apophis. Pathos climbed onto Tanis' back. Their azure scales were smooth and warm to the touch, and filled me with a strange but familiar energy.
They walked to the cliff outside the cavern, behind the waterfall and took flight, splashing right through the falls and into the sunlight, the water glistening as it fell away from our bodies. We soared high into the sky, Tanis and Pathos right beside us. I told Apophis the way to Bronze Guardia, and he banked hard to the right, nearly throwing me off of his back. I held on all the tighter as we made our way to battle, hoping to get there in time...
